3d-Palace Presents; The Imperial Knight 3D Tutorial for 3ds Max with BONUS Model Files

File

Everyone loves Mechs!  As a kid, I loved nothing more than coming up with awesome designs for mech robots that I would imagine in my favourite films and TV shows.  Now as an old, grizzled artist with over 20 years of experience in the industry, I make high detail mechs and teach thousands of students professionally in my spare time.

Mechs are the best possible way to learn how to make complex hard surface models in a fun and relaxing way!  Want to make a tank?  If you know how to make a mech's foot, you can make one easily!  Want to know about complex curved surfaces?  Mech Armour!  Procedural animation and rigging?  Mechs have that in SPADES! Check out this timelapse of a few parts of this set (it goes really fast - the real set is in 'real time' and not speeded up.)

I use Warhammer 40k a lot for reference as the artists there have a lot of experience in designing pieces that feature a lot of mechanical parts - albeit posed in a static way - as well as conforming to a strict design policy, which means that as a reference for a hard surface artist these things are fantastic if you do not have access to many thousands of dollars of concept art.

When you move the leg on this piece you will see that every piston moves, everything looks like it should and everything is detailed awesomely.  The railguns I made were originally for a non rigged mech I built however they work so nicely on this one that it seemed a shame to waste it on that set so I included it as a FREE bonus - massive railguns is what we all need from time to time!

I have designed and built robots using 3ds Max and invented several major development pipelines that you can learn and use right now, plus I am always happy to chat about Mech design, tips, ideas and advice!

So, over 20 hours of material, and more.  You should just dig right in and give it a try today, what have you got to lose?  You even get all of the model files for your own reference (not for selling!) in 3ds format.  Note that there are a couple of skipped numbered parts - these are parts that were cut and replaced in the edit.

MAKE A MECH! Become an awesome hard surface artist.
