Dev Diary 17.10.22

After a brief bout with probably Covid and various personal issues to deal with I am back to assessing my schedule. I made some difficult decisions about the game and how it should be going forward, the primary ones being that the legacy narrative system is needing to be fully stripped out and updated, along with some major changes in how the game presents.
Gondola Island is only used once and was originally designed to be used in the demo two years ago – it will now be split off to replace Day 0 – becoming basically the introduction area as it should be. Processes in the game will also be changed from the level streaming model to the world partitioning system to make it load better and ensure runnable gameplay.
Testing using my trusty Steamdeck is pulling good results on speed and playability – the dark doubt days need to be pushed aside. Time to move forward slowly. No it will not release this year, I need to stop pushing myself on that idea. Instead time to give myself room to breathe in what has been a challenging year.
Testers, there will be a new version soon I promise. I am learning from past mistakes and growing as a developer as we all should – I am also lucky that I have someone able to tell me to cut the chaff from the wheat.
Solodev is hard 🙂
